PALOUSE: AUTUMN

Joso railroad trestle crossing the Snake River at Lions Gate State Park. On Highway 261 in Central Washington State, this trestle crosses the Snake adjacent to the oldest extant steel cantilever bridge in the state, The Snake River Bridge. Upstream is Marmes Rockshelter, the archaelogical site that contained the oldest known fossilized human remains in North America. This archaelogical site is one of the three first National Historical Landmarks that were designated in Washington state.
