A delta empties itself in to the ocean through a Mediterranean-like beach of fine, bright sand in northern Iceland. All along this barely subarctic Atlantic island, there are magnificent, unspoiled fjords that cut inland for many miles as they give way to plateaus, cliffs, and floodplains.
